January theme is: Declutter!
I actually started this process last year after our kitchen renovation. It was so liberating. I got rid of tons of stuff! Items that no longer served me, I didn’t love, and was challenged to find a purpose for in my home.
Clutter bogs us down physically, emotionally & spiritually. Our lives are weighted down by too much stuff!!
This year I’m trading stuff in for experiences…more on that later.
My home is cleaner and much more organized than it was last year.
But I’m not done yet. That was just surface stuff. This time around I’m getting ruthless with STUFF!
Stuff affects us in so many ways! Have you ever felt yourself become so overwhelmed just from the stuff that surrounds you? Yeah me too!
Feeling overwhelmed makes us spend more, eat more, and perpetuates a vicious cycle. We eat more and spend more, then feel badly, only to eat more and spend more to feel better. Sound crazy? It is, but how many of us would actually admit we have been here more times than we would like to admit? You are not alone.
We are a society that’s thrives on Excess…excess food, excess debt, excess weight….and the stress of all the excess is killing us. Quite Literally.
So I’m lighting my load from the beginning of 2017! Here is my plan:
For the next 31 days I am going to Declutter my Home and my Finances. We will talk finances on Frugal Friday (so be sure to stop back on 1/6 for our new series!) where I will share how we are Decluttering our finances this year!
Home Declutter: I have divided the Challenge up into 4 weeks. The Challenge will run Mon-Sat with Sundays off for re-group/ & recharge.
We are not looking to deep clean here ladies. Don’t get bogged down by perfection or overthinking!! Remember Perfection is the enemy of Progress! We are just getting rid of Stuff!!
I have created a Pdf Weekly Challenge Sheet for you all to follow along with me if your interested. I will use the hashtag #mission declutter over on the FB page to share photos and updates of my progress.
Week 1 will be the Master Bedroom…I chose this room because this is where we spend 8-9 hours of every day. It should be a clean organized space where our minds & body’s heal and restore. A chaotic unorganized bedroom can actually do the opposite, making us feel wired & tired. For those of us who suffer from insomnia this is huge!
The goal will be to remove 7 articles of stuff from each of the categories listed. I created the sheet with my room in mind, but left extra spaces for you all to add in what works for you!
Remember this is NOT a cleaning / organizing challenge . It is a stuff removal challenge. It will be much easier to clean & organize once all the STUFF is gone.
I have created 3 bins
Give away, Sell & Trash
Each item that no longer serves me will be placed in one of these 3 bins.
Here’s how to get rid of stuff:
- Set the timer for 30 minutes then start getting rid of stuff
- If you haven’t Worn it, Touched it, or Used it, in 6 mos to 1 year… onesville!
- My goal is to remove 7 pieces of stuff from each category
- Don’t get hung up here, if you don’t make 7 you haven’t failed. Just remove what no longer serves you
- When the timer goes off you are done 🙂
At the End of our 31-day challenge…we will have removed (taking Sundays off)
182 Articles of Stuff from our Homes
Making space for all those things in your home that you love and serve you well!
Hope you will join me!
