Consistency

DEFINITION OF CONSISTENCY:  the ability to remain the same in behavior, attitudes or qualities.

A pattern of sticking with one way of thinking or acting.

Being consistent is key to meal plans . . . If I am consistent, then when I do have a “treat”,

my path is not sabotaged; therefore, I am not discouraged.

I love that being on THM means I only have to wait 3 hours to get back on plan 🙂

Definition of Balanced:  Arranged in good proportion (especially in food:  having different elements in the correct proportions).

Trying new foods…eating a variety of fruits and vegetables…varying meals throughout the week and keeping my body guessing as to what is coming next, keeps my metabolism revved up.  Being WELL-BALANCED is a struggle of mine.  However, being balanced is a start to being healthy…food, exercise, rest…yes, REST is crucial to being well-balanced.

One of the things that I absolutely LOVE about the Trim Healthy Mama plan, is the emphasis on non-scale victories, and that the authors embrace that this is an individual plan for health, not weight loss.  For me that truth has been very liberating.  We are all not supposed to look the same. My Trim will not look like your trim, and vice versa….I love that!

I love that the emphasis is on regaining, and maintaining your health, not on losing weight, and that is exactly how the plan has worked for me.  The very first thing I noticed when starting this Journey 2 trim ‘n’ healthy, was that I was feeling better in my overall health, the weight loss came second.

As you can see in the above photo, all these women weigh 154 pounds (My current weight), but they do not all look the same. That is because we are all created differently.  We are not supposed to be the same.  I don’t know about you all, but that gives me freedom to embrace “Me”.  I love the fact that I am finding my trim again (Fat distorts body image) and regaining my figure. I’m not supposed to look like you, and you’re not supposed to look like me.

So often as more mature women, we just accept the fact that this is life after menopause, and we have no control over our health or body appearance…..and that my friends is a lie!!!  It may be a little more challenging than when we were twenty, but we have hope and I LOVE That!!!

Trim Healthy Mama is a plan that fits every Woman at every stage of Life…..and I LOVE That!

Single Mama Simple Success #1

Keep it simple THFF (Trim Healthy Friend Forever)…This is the first of many posts on little simple meals, snacks, fuel pulls or tips to help keep you on track to keep Trimmin’ off.  Drink a lot of fluids.  My personal favorite is Good Girl Moonshine (GGMS) with any flavored herbal tea.  I get bored with water in the summer time.

So let’s start with some BREAKFAST tips.  I don’t always have time to make all the fun drinks, so I start my day off with a glass of barley greens and water (a.k.a. Green Drink) to get my hydration going (this also helps curb my appetite because most of the time I am thirsty, but often reach for food instead), followed by a cup of Oolong Tea.  I have these two drinks while I am getting ready for work.  At around 7:00am, breakfast is any of these:

  1. 2 – 3 Eggs & Bacon, Ham or Sausage – S (and/or veggies)…oh and don’t forget the cheese…remember  “FAT Doesn’t Make You FAT”!
  2. Zucchini Fritter – S (Page 217).
  3. Cottage Cheese (1% or 2% fat) and fruit (E or FP depending on what kind of fruit you use)…see Page 86 for E fruits.  It would be a fuel pull “FP” if you used berries listed on Page 73 (excluding the S Helper list for weight loss mode).
  4. Whey Protein Smoothies are a favorite of mine…Big Boy Smoothie (Page 242)…add coconut oil to make it an “S”, OR use any of the fruits listed on Page 86 for an “E”, OR the recipe in the book for a “FP”.
  5. Fat Stripping Frappa (Page 240)…I drink this on the way to work, then at about 10:30am, I eat Muffin in a Mug (Page 256)…prepared at home.

Why I Gave Up Expensive Beauty Creams

For years I have used high-end face cream and moisturizers. The kind you buy at the Beauty counter at the high-end retail department stores. You know the kind that makes you pull out your credit card. Yeah…Yeah…I know, but taking care of our middle age skin is important right?

Well let me tell you about my new beauty secret, and it works internally as well as externally. Yes you read that right. I never considered eating or drinking my previous night creams, but I do with my current beauty regime, and it is quite yummy too!

OK, before you totally think I’m off my rocker let me reveal my secret….Coconut Oil. The King of Super Foods. There is more and more medical research being done regarding the health benefits of Coconut Oil, and the results are showing it has excellent benefits to our health when taken internally (all of us THMers, have known this for a while) but it has great benefits for our skin too!

I take a small amount and rub it all over my face at night. I have also used it as a moisturizer under my make-up in the morning. You only need a very small amount, otherwise your face may feel greasy. I have gotten several compliments on my skin lately, and the only thing externally I have changed, is the use of Coconut Oil. I consume Coconut Oil nearly every day also, so it’s working inside and out!! It’s inexpensive, there are no chemicals or preservatives, and it is not tested on animals. My skin feels super smooth and a jar would last me a year, and saves me lot’s of moolah!

A Win…Win for sure!

Accountability

Definition of Accountability:  the fact or condition of being accountable; an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility for one’s actions…it can be personal or public…sometimes taking accountability means admitting that you made a mistake…show’s ownership.

I enjoy being accountable to my THFFs (Trim Healthy Friends Forever), and it helps keep me on track for being responsible for caring for my body.

I’ve Only Lost 5# ?????!!!!!!!!!

We’ve all been there. Arghhh!! We step on the scale and it barely moves, or worse it doesn’t move at all. We’ve worked hard, stayed on plan, no cheats…and the scale isn’t moving.  We are discouraged.  We may even consider giving up. Don’t you do it!!!!

I recently read that gaining weight is like riding an escalator, and losing weight…well that’s like walking down the stairs…backwards!!

I want to encourage you that losing 5# is a HUGE deal. 5 pounds is 17, 500 calories! That’s nothing to sneeze at chickies…Seriously…here are 4 benefits to your health directly related to 5# weight loss. They are as follows:

  1. Your cholesterol level lowers   It is no secret that gaining weight soars your cholesterol. Thus putting you at increased risk for Heart Attack & Stroke. The good news is your Cholesterol level also decreases, as you lose weight. Studies have shown even a modest decrease in weight loss can help lower Blood Cholesterol levels. That’s great news!
  2. Weight loss lowers your blood pressure  Elevated Blood pressure, overtime can damage Heart, Lung and Kidneys. Keeping blood pressure under control is key to reducing your risk. There are millions of Americans on Anti Hypertensive medication, that still suffer from elevated blood pressure, because they aren’t treating the root cause of their Hypertension…Obesity!! Even a modest weight loss can dramatically improve Hypertension. For most people, losing weight can be a cure for high blood pressure!! Let me say that again, A CURE!! For every pound of weight you lose, your blood pressure decreases. That is a great start in putting less stress on the Heart & Kidneys. Not to mention there are some pretty serious side effects to blood pressure medications.
  3. Improved Glycemic Control  Reduces your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. The more weight we carry, the less sensitive your cells are to the hormone Insulin. As THM’s, we know that Insulin makes you fat!!!! By losing even 5# you directly reduce your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Developing Type 2 Diabetes or not Developing Type 2 Diabetes, is more within your control than you think.  Now that’s a reason for a happy dance. 🙂
  4. Improved Joint Pain I was amazed when I learned this, but every extra pound of weight you carry past your IBW (Ideal Body Weight) can add up to 3 pounds of pressure on your knee joints when you walk. Dropping extra weight, especially body fat – may be the single most important thing you can do to prevent a serious knee problem. Obesity is one of the biggest risk factors of developing Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes of Knee replacement…a very expensive and painful adventure. This is where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
